I am a warm and caring person who will welcome you with respect and kindness. I am fully qualified as an integrative Therapeutic Counsellor which allows me to include a variety of different approaches in sessions. I retrained as a counsellor later in life. I was the oldest person in my class, which as you can imagine came with its challenges for me! With age though comes lived experience and I have had my share of trauma, hurt and sadness over the years. I have always tried to live positively and be in the present, facing challenges head on. What I have noticed is you never stop learning about yourself and we are all on a continuous journey of discovery and we are never too old to do things differently, make changes in our lives and take risks.
I’m a person-centred counsellor, first and foremost, and the individual or couple will always be at the heart of my service. As a person-centred counsellor I will help you to explore your own issues, feelings, beliefs, behaviour, and worldview, so you can develop a deeper self-awareness and achieve greater independence. I will not judge you, no matter what you bring to the session, and this helps us to build a trusting relationship in which you can feel free and supported to disclose whatever is worrying you.
I am an accredited member of the National Counselling & Psychological Society (NCPS) and I work in accordance with their Ethical Framework which underpins my practice as a therapist. This means that you can be reassured that I practice in an ethical manner.
I can help support you to resolve the challenges you face and improve your emotional well-being. Maybe you are feeling stressed, or living with constant anxiety and your head is full of worries or you are always thinking about the past and/or the future. I can help you develop strategies to cope with your busy mind. You may feel depressed, you may be grieving, or your relationship might be coming to an end. I can support you through this difficult time so you can discover a sense of self that feels right for where you are now.
I am also experienced in working with Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), I am passionate about these skills, and you can incorporate them into your everyday living, these skills will then help you develop a deeper sense of self. You will discover a new way of stopping avoiding, denying, and struggling with your inner emotions and, instead, accept that these deeper feelings are appropriate responses to certain situations, which will give you the strength to move forward in your life. I weave these skills through my person-centred approach, and I’ve found they compliment the support I offer.
It might be that you want to achieve a healthier life-work balance, I can support you to explore your options, this may include looking within yourself and understanding your motivations for change, it may highlight characteristics that you are unaware of. Whatever brings you to counselling, I am confident I can support you.
